Protect yourself from security fraud
Identity fraud is preventable and prevention usually starts and ends at home. Here’s five easy steps to prevent identity theft.
- Install a locked letterbox tht is large enough to reveive all your daily mail without anything protruding from the box. Another option is to have all your mail sent to a post office box. Annual fees are reasonable and you have complete security of your mail.
- Be careful who you give information to on the telephone or over the Internet. If making payments on the Internet, make sure the website has good security in place.
- Regularly check your bank statements for any anomolies and contact your bank immediately if you find anything.
- Get a shredder to destroy any sensitive documents rather than just throwing them into the paper disposal bin.
- Set up a login on your computer for accessing all your files and change your password regularly.
If you do become a victim of identity theft, contact the police immediately.
