The semi-rural suburb of Brookfield lies just west of Kenmore nestled between Mt Elphinstone to the south and the natural rugged forests behind Mt Coot-tha to the north. The Moggill Creek flows along the scenic corridor of Upper Brookfield Road and then meanders through Brookfield on its way to the Brisbane River. The whole area is one of rural tranquility.
Brookfield forms part of a large area of semi-rural and rural properties that embrace neighbouring suburbs of Upper Brookfield, Pullenvale and Pinjarra Hills. These suburbs feature many acreage properties – luxurious homes with swimming pools, tennis courts and horse stables.
Only minutes to the Kenmore shopping centre and 14 kilometers to the CBD, Brookfield provides home owners with acreage-style living and all the conveniences of city life.
In recent years, properties closer to Kenmore have been subdivided offering home owners modern homes on smaller blocks of land.
The highlight of the Brookfield calendar is the Brookfield Show. First held in 1906, the Brookfield Show includes needlework and cookery competitions, woodwork and pottery, horticulture displays and sideshow alley. And there’s plenty of action ringside with equestrian and cattle shows.

There is a corner shop near the Brookfield Showgrounds and a few kilometers down the road in Kenmore are major shopping centres. The Kenmore Tavern is located in Kenmore Plaza Shopping Centre on Moggill Road.
The Brisbane City Council operates a regular daily bus service to and from the city.
Brookfield has a state primary school situated close to the Brookfield Showgrounds. Offering Prep to Year 7 curriculum, the school has been educating the children in Brookfield since 1871. It is a relatively small school renowned for the strong community support it receives from local parents and citizens.

The Jagera and Turrbal tribes inhabited Brookfield and had their ceremonial grounds on the undulating slopes of Mt. Elphinstone.
The area was first settled by white men in the mid 19th century for logging and farming. The district was known for dairy farming and fruit growing, especially pineapples and other tropical fruits.
The population in the district went from a couple of hundred before World War II to nearly 1000 in 1970. During the 1990s, expansion saw the population reach 3500. About 66 per cent of households are couples with children. A further 26 per cent are couples without children. Primarily, Brookfield remains a very green, leafy suburb with large homes built on acreage blocks, although some smaller allotments have been developed in areas closer to Kenmore.
