Fig Tree Pocket is literally a pocket of land in a bend of the Brisbane River. Developed originally in acreage, riverfront properties, the suburb now has a mixture of acreage and residential-sized blocks.
With its wide open spaces, abundance of wild life, a pony club and parklands, it is one of the most green and tree-filled suburbs in Brisbane. Fig Tree Pocket provides a semi-rural lifestyle even though it’s a mere nine kilometers from the city of Brisbane. And because it is situated in a bend on the river, it’s relatively peaceful, with no through traffic and low noise pollution.
Fig Tree Pocket is home to one of Brisbane’s most loved attractions, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Daily riverboat cruises carry tourists to and from Lone Pine from the CBD.
Fig Tree Pocket is a part of the Brisbane City Council local government area, is in the state seat of Indooroopilly and the Federal Electoral Division of Ryan.
Some of the most expensive riverfront properties in Brisbane can be found at Fig Tree Pocket. It also has a variety of low density residential properties.
The median house price in the December 2009 quarter was $702.000 according to the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.
The relative remoteness of the suburb lends itself to a quiet lifestyle but also means that there are few local amenities such as shops. The nearest major shopping centre is Indooroopilly Shoppingtown.
Brisbane City Council operates buses to the suburb, routes 430 and 445 which both terminate at Mandalay Park.
